Well, some interesting things have been happening to us of late - we’re in the middle of working on a longform 3 month project for ‘We’re-probably-not-allowed-to-say-but-it’s-exciting-yeah’. Hopefully more (well, anything) on that soon.
However, we took a break from the 13th-17th of June to do the 2011 Portsmouth University Game Jam - 35 and a 1/2 hours spread over 5 days to make a fully playable game. Three random Wikipedia articles were sourced on the day, and your game had to based on one or more of those. Headed up by lecturer Andy Bain, it might’ve featured awards to win, but it was mainly a chance to challenge yourself. Step outside of the normal routine, sharpen your skills, refine your sense of focus as a group. Drink a lot of beer.
The articles ended up being variously about the Swedish legal system, actress Miriam Hopkins, and a bunch of films from the year 1964. What did we make out of that? ‘Miriam Hopkins - Mummified Werewolf’, of course! A top-down, randomly-generated bloody rampage, where you change between Miriam and her vicious Werewolf form, taking revenge on the Hollywood studio system that sidelined you.

Admittedly, we didn’t go out on a limb to nearly the same extent as some teams, but for us, simply getting something playable together that was more or less complete as a game was challenging enough. Plus, we spent too much time chatting with other people. Duh. In any case, we had an absolute blast, met and got to know some hugely talented, ambitious and enthusiastic people, and ate far too many chicken burgers. No more chicken burgers. Ever.
Same time next year? We’ll see you there.

Yes, it’s new game time again - this time, a super-devious, procedurally-generated platformer…featuring ninjas. Have a go here:
As our benevolent publisher overlords at Adult Swim succinctly put it:
”What’s a ninja to do when he finds himself at the top of an infinitely tall tower filled with deadly enemies? Jump, stab, bomb, and make “HIYA!” sounds in this challenging platformer that pits you against endless floors of enemies and a ticking clock. The randomly generated tower is different every time you play, so bring your skill and speed and dive as deep as you can before the House of Dead Ninjas claims your little ninja soul.”
NOTE FOR PORTALS: Adult Swim own HODN lock, stock and barrel, so any requests should be directed towards them via the usual channels. Ta!
Get to it, ninja…

In the light of Nick and Jon taking part in a Knightfall-related interview on the fine Tech-Gaming podcast, it stood to reason that there was no point at all in exhuming the shambling corpse of the roundtable podcast we did back in October 2008, discussing games that had a big effect on the way we make them nowadays. But we did it, anyway.
The recording quality is awful, and so is the conversation, but on the upside, it’s overlong! Enjoy.
The brand-spanking-new sequel to the immensely popular Bombooze (50m plays and counting) is now available for licencing to portals - if you are interested in a site-locked version, get in touch!
Adding new game modes, blob types, special powers, achievements, and dynamic music, Bomboozle 2 is a frantic step up on every level! Group like-coloured blobs together in threes or more for oodles of points, and use bombs to create carnage on a massive scale! Run out of possible moves though, and your Bomboozling time is over…

Our latest title, My Word! is now finally out on Games.com. It’s a mighty moreish word puzzler. Go play it!
Here’s the blurb…
'My Word! is a word game seemingly in the traditional mold, but several features set it apart from other games in the genre. The unique 3D board allows the player to lookahead for the next incoming letters, and if they are to keep formulating words, they must manage the grid carefully! With a dictionary of over 150,000 words and a chilled-out style, My Word! is a charming and relaxed addition to the genre.'
There you go. What are you waiting for?

So then! The third installment in the Knightfall series has rolled into view at last! Only this time, it’s coming to iPhone and PC!
We’ve not been able to say much about it, which has been agonizing at times. We’re yet to confirm a specific date, but it should be soon. There will be a free Flash-based sampler of the 1st island to come, so watch this space…Until then, have some official blurb, and a teaser:

What have we here? Why, it’s a little news about a game we thought had long since run its course - Time 4 Cat! Bizarrely, it’s had a few fresh mentions in various blogs and portals, so here’s a quick round-up, as we were rather pleased that it was featured.
First up is arguably the largest up-and-coming independent gaming blog Destructoid. I’ve been a reader for a good few years, so I was pretty chuffed to see it:
Secondly, excellently written independent PC gaming blog Rock Paper Shotgun, co-founded by eminent journalist fellow Kieron Gillen:
And last, but definitely not least, it got ‘Game of the Day’ at Games.com last friday! Grand stuff.
A mighty thanks to all the sites that featured it. Funny how it takes a while for these things to spread, isn’t it? ;)
Well, here’s your chance!
If you’re a company registered with FlashGameLicense , we have a couple of new titles up for sponsorship - My Word! and Bomboozle 2
